Japanese numbers follow a logical pattern based on 10s, similar to English. Once you learn the basic parts, it becomes easy to build bigger numbers!
🧠 Basic Number Reading Rules
| Range | How to Read | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1 – 10 | Each number has a unique word | 1 = いち (ichi), 2 = に (ni), 10 = じゅう (juu) |
| 11 – 19 | じゅう (10) + number | 11 = じゅういち (juuichi) |
| 20, 30, 40… | number + じゅう | 20 = にじゅう (nijuu) |
| 21 – 99 | Tens part + Units part | 25 = にじゅうご (nijuugo) |
| 100 | ひゃく (hyaku) | 100 = ひゃく |
